Flower cardiagn designed by Vendula Maderska |
Oh, girls - I am so happy that you like my Flower cardigan design. Let me tell you some words about history of this pattern. It was one of my very first patterns I wrote. I made first version of this pattern in my native language in June 2010. Wow, the time is running so fast! The pattern was published in creativ magazine Practical women No 11/2010 also.
There are many many many different flower cardigans being made since that time. You could take a quick look here and see some creations. That all is work of the handy-ladies from Czech Republic and neighbours from Slovak Republic also.
In January 2012 I wrote english version of this pattern, but... because I have no practice how to write pattern for cardigan in english before, it is quite different writting and quite difficult for me then as in my native english - it was wrote by confusing way a little bit. Everyone should have a practice, nobody is perfect! :-) So in July 2012 I wrote second version of the pattern. It was revised by native english speaker Norma (my big thanks Norma:-) ) , but althought I was tried hard and counted every stitch I made - I overlooked one stitch - and made mistake in yoke and .... OMG! I was so unhappy and frustrated about it ... because of you, because I know, how frustrating could be the counting stitches again and again and unweaving the work again and again.. I am sorry for that.
Well, I wrote third and I really hope, that last version of this pattern :-) I am quite nervous about it.. It is revised, tested several times by me and friend of my Josie. I spent many time working on this pattern and re-counting the stitches - and I hope, that this time, it will be clear and no confusing and frustrating pattern finally. I hope that you will enjoy crocheting of this cardigan. It is described in detail in two sizes - for 3 and 5 years old child.
You could downland the Flower cardigan pattern here on this blog (it is free, in pdf version)

We (me and my Natynka) discussed about the colors and buttons maybe more than one hour..:-) We love to spent a time with discussing about colors and buttons a that things:-)
If you like this hat and would like to make it to for your sweet girl I wrote a pattern. It is available in my Etsy shop. And if you are interested how I am sewing the lining, I wrote a tutorial. It is available free on my blog:-)
And now I have to make another one for my second one Nelinka of course. But… there is a something new forming in my head;-)
Because
it is getting cold outside, I had to make the winter hats for
my little ones. I would like to make colorful and warm ear-flaps. And
here is my tutorial, how I am sewing a lining into the ear-flaps.
I mark the middle of the lining with a pin and now I divide my lining in two parts.
I fold one part on two half and divide the part on two smaller parts again.
Now fold this small part on right angle and I get a triangle.
Cut the triangle.
Now sew it (using still only "zig-zag" stitch again). Repeat it with all smaller parts. And you get a fleece hat actually.
I don't like the these sharp corners (see picture below, please), so I sew it again but now I made a bigger angle until there will be no sharp corners and the . Now I use zig-zag stitch and normal sewing stitch to finish it.
Turn the hat hat into reverse side and sew crocheted hat and the lining together on the top.
Then join the crocheted hat and the lining with a pins.
And cut the lining. Leave about 1 - 1,5 cm (0,4 - 0,6 inches) fabric for sewing.
Now sew the lining by hands. Roll the edge a little bit to the lining has nice edge after sewing into crocheted hat.
Well, and you have finished it :-)
I hope, you will enjoy this tutorial :-)
Important
note: please notice
that, I am not professional seamstress. I am beginner and
self learner. I don't like measurement so I am trying of simplest
way :-) I don't know right therms of sewing in my native language let alone in English ;-) but as always I made
many pictures and maybe you will like my technique and it will be
helpful for you :).
First
of all I make a lining, before I make a hat, because I want to know,
how big the ear flap should be (but from practice I know that the crocheted hat should be 2 cm (0,8 inches) wider as normal)
I
used bright pink color fleece for the lining. I choose a little bit elastic variation of
this material.
Circumference of head is 50 cm (19,7 inches). I cut two same rectangles 27 x 26 cm (10,6 x 10,2 inches) but please note, that the height may be bigger depending on the overall length of the ear flap from top of the head to the end of flaps – so really it depends on you.
Then I placed both rectangles with front sides to each other, elasticity goes into the sides as you could see on the picture above. Sew them together on the sides. First I use “zig-zag” stitch, I will make normal stitch again at the end.

When I have finished the lining I will sew it into the hat. I made this colorful buttoned hat (if you like it I wrote a pattern) I give the lining into the hat with reverse side in front of me and insert the lining into the hat.
Turn the hat hat into reverse side and sew crocheted hat and the lining together on the top.
